1Thessalonians 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
One of the units in the chemical plant I worked in was called “Cracking and Quench”. Part of the function of that unit was to rapidly cool down heated chemicals. The word quench as used in scripture is referring to putting out the flame of the Spirit that God is trying to ignite in us. Quenching the Spirit prohibits the work of the Holy Spirit and the advancement of the kingdom of God. It works like this, the Holy Spirit prompts us to do something. It may be to speak a word to someone, to pray for someone, to go to a particular place or anything that God may want us to do. When we resist these promptings we are quenching the Holy Spirit. Just imagine some of the incredible miracles that don’t take place when we quench the Holy Spirit. Somebody’s healing, salvation, or deliverance my depend on our yielding to the Holy Spirit today. May we be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit is my prayer.
