Proverbs 18:7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

This seems to be one of the biggest struggles we have as human beings, controlling our tongues. The Message Bible says, “Fools are undone by their big mouths; their souls are crushed by their words.” Although God’s Word is filled with directions on how we should speak we just haven’t gotten the memo. We must realize that every word we speak has great power. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21) Who wants to be known as a fool? Fools speak first and think later. Fools destroy their own lives with the very words they speak. Wise people think before they speak or don’t speak at all. It’s amazing how smart we can look when we don’t speak. Try more, listening and thinking, and less talking today. You may find the results very rewarding. May we be quick to think and slow to speak is my prayer.
