John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) The same was in the beginning with God. (3) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (4) In him was life, and the life was the light of men. (5) And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
While the baby Jesus was laying in the manger peacefully sleeping there was a star shining brightly overhead. That star was the guiding light for the wise men to find Him but it was much more than that. The light of that star was a symbol of the great light that was birthed in Christ. The light that Jesus brought was the light of the gospel of God’s Word. This light would shine on the darkness of humanity and illuminate the sins that He would die for. Just like a light switch controls the light in a room, so you and I can choose to allow God’s Word to light up our life or we can ignore His Word and continue to live in darkness. The only way we can enjoy the fulness of life is by excepting the light of the gospel. May we not only receive Jesus but, may we allow His light to shine brightly in us is my prayer.
