Genesis 29:25

So it came about in the morning that, behold, it was Leah! And he said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served with you? Why then have you deceived me?

One of the worst punishments I ever received by my Dad was for lying. Lying is something despised by God and fathered by the devil. Lies destroy relationships and when found out causes one to lose respect. The lie Laban performed on Jacob was so horrible. That he would serve 7 years for the love of his life and be deceived into marrying her older sister was just wrong, but that’s how lying works. His grandfather Abraham lied about his wife sarai being his sister, his father Isaac lied about Rachel being his sister, and Jacob had deceived His father about his own identity to steal Esau’s blessing. Lies beget lies, it’s the law of God, “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Gal. 6:7) Just as lies are destructive, the truth is liberating. May we be people of the truth is my prayer.
