Numbers 4:13

Then they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth over it.

What a wonderful picture this scripture paints of the goodness of our God. Picture this, the soot filled ashes of an often used fireplace, stained black from the smoke and piled up with the remains of burned wood. That’s what the altar looked like. The priests were to clean the altar and cover it with a purple cloth, that’s exactly what Christ does when we come to Him for salvation. He cleans away our sins and covers us with the beauty of His nature. Hatred and violence is replaced with love and peace. Depression and sorrow are replaced with joy and the spirit of gladness. That’s what God does for us. He gives us beauty for ashes. May we enjoy the blessings of His goodness is my prayer.
