Leviticus 14:12,13

Then the priest shall take the one male lamb and bring it for a guilt offering, with the log of oil, and present them as a wave offering before the Lord. (13) Next he shall slaughter the male lamb in the place where they slaughter the sin offering and the burnt offering, at the place of the sanctuary, for the guilt offering, like the sin offering, belongs to the priest; it is most holy.

If you’ve wondered why God put some of the hard to read details in the Old Testament about sacrifices, it’s because He wants us to know the awful price that must be paid for sin. The shedding of the blood of innocent lambs and birds was the price for sin. Of course, it was never enough to fully pay for the sins of man. This brings us to the New Testament or New Covenant that God made through the shedding of His own Son’s blood at Calvary. If you think sacrificing animals was awful, the sacrifice of Jesus on a cross was just incredible. The perfect Son of God gave His life so that we might be freed from the eternal judgement for our sins. It was brutal, painful, and disgusting, but to those of us who have received His grace it is precious. May we all partake of His grace is my prayer.
