2 Samuel 13:20 (The Message)
Her brother Absalom said to her, “Has your brother Amnon had his way with you? Now, my dear sister, let’s keep it quiet-a family matter. He is, after all, you brother. Don’t take this so hard.” Tamar lived in her brother Absalom’s home, bitter and desolate.
This is one of the most disgusting and painful stories in the Bible. A girl who has saved herself for marriage is raped by her half brother and told to not make a big deal out of it by her brother who’s trying to help her. It’s just awful, once again proving that bad things happen to good people. What didn’t have to happen is for her to become bitter and desolate. This is the plan of satan, to kill, to steal and to destroy our lives any way he can. So he throws everything he can at us hoping that we will succumb to bitterness, isolation, depression, and even suicide. Don’t let the work of satan rob you of what God has for you. If you’re struggling with the pain of the past, reach up to God and allow Him to lift you into His abundant life. May we be restored by God’s grace is my prayer.
