Ecclesiastes 4:12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
One of the skills my Dad learned while serving in the Navy was how to tie various knots. He could lash two ropes together, lash loops in the end of a rope, and even make decorative knots. One of the things he taught us was that a rope possesses a certain strength, but when it’s lashed together with another rope the area where the two ropes come together becomes the strongest part of the new rope. That’s a Biblical principle found here in Ecclesiastes. When we come together as believers we are much stronger than when we try to stand alone. There is this human temptation to try and be self-sufficient, but the truth is we are not as strong as we think we are. Every time we try to go through tough times alone we give the enemy a better opportunity to bring us down, but when we lash ourselves to another believer we become an unbeatable team. Remember this, when Christ sent His disciples out, He sent them out two by two so they would be strong enough for the fight. May we find strength in the fellowship of the believers is my prayer.
