Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
One of the sayings that is programmed into my GPS is, “make the next available U-turn”. That’s what it tells me every time I miss a turn I was supposed to make. A u-turn is an about face; a change in direction of 180 degrees. The message of the Gospel, as preached by Jesus, is centered around a change of direction. Living life without Christ will take you in the wrong direction. The Gospel challenges us to change the direction of our life, turning our attention to Christ. Paul says, “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2Cor.5:17) Repentance is all about a change of direction, so much so, that we are literally a new person. This was the message of Jesus preaching and it is still the message of the Gospel today. May we all exhibit a heart of repentance as we strive to live pleasing before God is my prayer.
