Mark 3:24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

When by brother and I were boys we shared a bedroom. For a long time we had bunk beds but after multiple times of getting into trouble for kicking the top bunk or stepping on each other climbing up, our parents separated the two beds and placed them across the room from each other. Of course, boys will be boys, and separating the beds didn’t stop the arguments and picking. One day, after taking all I could stand of my little brother’s picking, I took my foot and drew a line in the carpet across the middle of the room. I told my brother to stay on his side of the line and I would stay on my side of the line and if he crossed the line there would be trouble. Of course, this did not solve the problem and only exasperated the situation. I soon found out that life by myself was not as fun as life with my brother. While our politicians are working overtime to divide our country let me remind us all this morning that God did not create us to be alone. The only successful way forward is unity. We may not agree on everything, but name calling and alienation never solved anything. May we all look for ways to work together is my prayer.
