Luke 2:6, 7 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. (7) And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him a manger; because there was no room in the inn.
Watching my daughter go through a pregnancy recently has brought back all the memories of my children’s birth. The word delivered is definitely the right word for birth. The nine months of pregnancy bring much pain and struggle and the birth sets the mother free of the struggle that has been going on in her body. I remember my wife struggling to adjust to the changes in her body, trying to find a comfortable position, and fighting off cravings for more food. Just as my children’s birth delivered my wife from the pains of pregnancy so has the birth of our Savior brought deliverance to the world. The greatest present we could receive this Christmas is to allow Christ to set us free from our sins. The addiction that you have struggled with, the hidden sin no one else knows about, and the nagging temptation that won’t go away can all be overcome by the Christ of Christmas. Deliverance has truly come! May we all allow Christ to set us free is my prayer.
