Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
One of my favorite things to do as a child was the once a month trip my brother and I took to the grocery store with our Mom. That’s right, I said once a month. My Dad worked for Harris County and He got paid once a month. We didn’t know it but Mom says living on one pay check a month was rough, the fourth week was usually pretty lean. Being children we were unaware of financial challenges and we always knew, even when they said they didn’t, Mom and Dad had money. We would always try to talk Mom into more junk food, a cheap toy, or a new pair of track shoes, you know the ones in the bin in the middle aisle with white stripes. Those shoes sure looked good with our bell bottom jeans. Mom was tough though and she would tell us no. When we would plead our case, she would begin to explain all the reasons we didn’t need what we were asking for. I remember on one occasion, when Mom said she only had enough money for groceries, my little brother telling her that he knew she had enough because she still had checks in her check book. His concept was, as long as Mom has checks we can keep spending, Mom’s concept was, I have enough to meet our needs. Paul is very clear in telling us that God meets the needs of His children. He doesn’t just pay for everything we throw in the cart, but He does promise to take care of our needs. His care for us is not affected by the economy, it’s not interrupted by the unforeseen calamity, and His check book is never empty. We can take our needs to God with full assurance that He will meet our needs. May we trust God with our needs is my prayer.
