Deuteronomy 9:6

“Know, then, it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people.”

Some how we get it in our heads that if we’re good enough, God will be good to us, but that’s just not the way it is. God is good all the time, not just when we are good. His nature is love and His actions toward us are always motivated by His love for us. Whether we are being chastised or receiving some unexpected blessing His actions toward us are always because of His love for us. It’s God’s mercy that we are not destroyed for our sins and it’s that same mercy that brings back into right standing before Him. May we thank God for His mercy and embrace His love is my prayer.
