Proverbs 18:2o, 21 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. (21) Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
One of my Dad’s sayings he would use to correct my brother and I was, “watch your mouth”. He would usually say that when we would start to raise our voice at him or when we said something that wasn’t quite nice. It’s amazing how much trouble our mouth can get us into and it’s equally amazing that we don’t understand the power of the tongue. The Bible declares that life and death are in the power of the tongue, in other words, our words can bring life or our words can bring death. Makes me want to say, “watch your mouth”, you might be killing someone. How many times have we allowed our mouth to run someone down instead of build them up. How many times have we professed doom and gloom over ourselves or someone else when we could have been speaking life and blessing. If we would watch our mouth, choose our words wisely, and speak them appropriately we could turn a death situation into life. May we all use our mouth to speak life is my prayer.
