Luke 5:6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes and their net brake.

Luke 5:1-11 is the account of Jesus first calling His disciples. Peter, James, and John were commercial fishermen who were having a little trouble catching fish on this particular day. Jesus spoke to them and after redirecting their efforts they caught a huge net full of fish. The miracle catch was so revealing about Jesus and who He was that verse 11 says, “they forsook all, and followed Him”. They thought they needed fish but after meeting Jesus they decided that He was what they really needed. Sometimes we toil at trying to achieve something that we think we must have and all the while we should have been seeking after Jesus and He would have supplied our need. When you can’t catch fish, it stands to reason that you might need the One who created fish to help you out. Spend your energy pursuing Jesus and you will find that He will bring with Him everything you need. May we seek Jesus with all our heart, mind and strength is my prayer.
