I laid me down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. (Psalms 3:5 KJV)
When our children were small we always looked forward to our nighttime devotions. They were always so memorable because we would have the children take part in reading or sharing their thoughts. The Bible stories they retold were not always accurate but it was awesome to watch them hone their skills as future leaders in the Church. Our mornings together as a family were just as awesome. Enjoying each other’s company around the breakfast table, kissing each other goodbye as I headed off to work, or joining the kids in the back yard play house for a time of make believe, those were truly awesome times! The psalmist surely recognized the blessings of God on his evenings and his mornings, but he also realized something we tend to take for granted, it was God who had sustained him while he slept. What an incredible thing to know that even while we sleep it is God who sustains us. Take a moment today to look around and recognize all of the unseen blessings God is sustaining you with. May we be ever mindful of the unseen blessings of our Father is my prayer.
